Executive Team

DON MACLEAN, CHAIRMAN

Don MacLean founded MacLean Engineering in 1973. A professional Mining Engineer, long-time miner and entrepreneur, Don built his namesake Company into a global force for hard rock mining innovation on the back of flagship, industry-changing products, notably the Series 900 Scissor Bolter and the remote-controlled Blockholer Drill. In 2014, Don was inducted into the International Mining Hall of Fame. As Chairman of MacLean Engineering, Don remains active in the business in an executive oversight and strategic capacity.

KEVIN MACLEAN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

Kevin MacLean was named the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2023, having served as President since 2005. Kevin is a Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science graduate from Cornell University. He co-founded a software company in 1986, took it public in 2000, and served as a Corporate Officer up until 2002. In 2005, Kevin was named VP of Software and Marketing at PDF Solutions, another publicly traded company specializing in the optimization of computer chip manufacturing. In 2012, he received the BACUS prize for lifetime achievement and contribution to the computer chip manufacturing industry, from SPIE (The International Society for Optics and Photonics).

STELLA HOLLOWAY, PRESIDENT

Stella Holloway began her career with MacLean Engineering in 2008 as an Account Manager for Northern Ontario. She has since held roles including Aftermarket Manager and Operations Manager before being appointed to General Manager for Northern Ontario Operations in 2017. In her role as President, she is responsible for the strategic direction of sales growth, business development and aftermarket support. Under Stella’s leadership, the focus is heavily centered on team collaboration that drives exceptional performance and delivers outstanding customer service, quality products and solutions.

CASEY VERWOERD, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)

Casey Verwoerd, CPA, graduated from McMaster University with an Honors Bachelor of Commerce degree and spent five years in a public sector finance position prior to joining MacLean Engineering in 2002. In his role as Chief Financial Officer at MacLean, Casey oversees the Company’s financial reporting, audit and compliance, legal, risk management and planning & treasury functions.

TONY CARON, VICE PRESIDENT GLOBAL SALES

Tony Caron started with MacLean Engineering in 1995 and since that time has served in a variety of positions of progressive responsibility across the business, including in manufacturing, aftermarket sales, branch management and business development. In his current VP role, Tony is responsible for global sales.

DAVID JACQUES, VICE PRESIDENT – ENGINEERING

David Jacques joined MacLean Engineering in 2001 after graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Management Science. David began his career in hydraulic and mechanical design roles and progressed through more responsible supervision and management positions within the engineering department as well as leading teams on several large new product development projects. As Vice President of Engineering, David is responsible for the engineering teams who carry out the design, continuous improvement, and customer support of all products offered by MacLean and works closely with Sales, Marketing, and Operations counterparts as part of the executive team. David has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario since 2005.

PATRICK MARSHALL, VICE PRESIDENT – TECHNOLOGY

Patrick Marshall graduated from the University of Queensland with an Honors Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. Patrick joined MacLean in 2018, having worked at mining operations across Australia and Canada in roles spanning operational excellence, technology implementation, equipment automation, asset management and mobile equipment maintenance. Leveraging his diverse experience in the mining industry. Patrick leads the MacLean Technology teams who are committed to delivering industry leading solutions and creating value through superior technical, application and market knowledge.

MAARTEN VAN KOPPEN, VICE PRESIDENT – PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Maarten van Koppen joined MacLean in May 2020 and is the VP for Product Management. Maarten brings 14 years of experience as a mining engineer in Canada.  Maarten graduated with a Masters of Science in Resource Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 2008 and completed his MBA at the Edinburgh Business School in 2019.  For the majority of Maarten’s career, he focused on project development, with the most notable project being the all-electric Borden Mine Project in Northeastern Ontario. Maarten’s role was to oversee all engineering from scratch to prefeasibility study, and to compile the prefeasibility study and business case. After completion of that study Maarten continued to be involved in long term engineering challenges and in securing significant public funding for the project. In Maarten’s new role at MacLean he oversees the product portfolio and product & technology development pipeline to continue to bring value to MacLean customers for years to come.

JOHN-PAUL THEUNISSEN, GENERAL MANAGER – AFRICA

John-Paul Theunissen joined MacLean in 2010 and has a depth of experience in engineering and aftermarket service and support. In his role as General Manager for MacLean Africa, John-Paul oversees business development, local assembly and engineering with the goal of expanding the footprint and increasing the market share across the African continent. “All of the above with a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service and support, as this is what it boils down to”.

RENÉ VALLE, GM MEXICO & CENTRAL AMERICA

René Valle, GM Mexico & Central America, has more than 35 years of experience in the mining industry.  He began his professional journey in 1985 when he joined Grupo Mexico’s Charcas S.L.P. unit, where he held a range of positions within the maintenance function of the operation and was later transferred to the Santa Barbara unit, in Chihuahua, ultimately working for Grupo Mexico for more than ten years.  Mr. Valle subsequently worked for Minera Frisco and then made the move to the equipment supplier side of the mining industry, working for two multi-national OEMs where he was focused on customer service, training, and business development across Mexico and Central America.  He joined the MacLean work family in 2010, when he was brought on board to open up and lead the MacLean Mexicana business.  In 2020, MacLean opened up a full manufacturing facility in Queretaro – the first-ever underground mining vehicle production plant to be established in Mexico.

STUART LISTER, VICE PRESIDENT – MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Stuart Lister has 20+ years of communications experience across the mining, manufacturing, sustainability consulting, and municipal sectors. His practice has taken him from remote mine sites and First Nation and Inuit communities in Ontario, Quebec, Labrador, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, to corporate headquarters and city halls. As Vice President of Marketing and Communications for MacLean Engineering based out of the company’s head office in Collingwood, Ontario, Stuart leads the efforts to raise awareness of MacLean innovation in the areas of mobile equipment electrification, automation and digitalization for the global underground mining industry.

TARA MACLEAN, ELKO US BRANCH MANAGER & PRODUCT MANAGER DIGITAL SYSTEMS

Tara MacLean (She/her) is the Elko US Branch Manager and the Product Manager of Digital Systems at MacLean. Prior to working at MacLean, Tara led the data analytics team at a software startup; she used that knowledge to lead the roll out of our vehicle monitoring system, helping our customers gain insights into their fleets and monitoring all battery electric equipment in the field. As branch manager in Elko, Tara ensures our Western US customers have the parts and support they require. 

JARI TUORILA, VICE PRESIDENT OF AUSTRALASIA REGION & GM OF AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONS

Jari Tuorila joined MacLean in 2020 and is the Vice President of Australasia Region and GM of Australian Operations. Jari has continuously resided in many of the major markets in the Asia Pacific region since 1988 building distribution network and managing growth in business for leading heavy equipment OEMs, global rentals companies and regional distributors in over 20 countries. He has a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Tampere University in Finland and an EMBA studies from Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. Jari’s regional team is focused on continuous launching of mining solutions with MacLean Application Intelligence to the Australian market to meet the current and future needs of the global mining industry by delivering products, technologies, and services in close partnership with our customers.
