MacLean Engineering & Marketing Co. Limited Continues to Build a Global Presence
Working in partnership with its dealer in Australia, G.R.A. Engineering,
MacLean Engineering proudly delivered the Model BH-3 Secondary Breaker in late
May to BHP-Billiton’s Olympic Dam Operations in Roxby Downs, South
Australia. This is the fifth unit in
recent years to be acquired by the Australian underground mining industry. Olympic Dam is the largest underground mine
in Australia and globally, the fourth largest copper mine. It is also a major world class producer of
uranium and gold.
The BH-3 Secondary Breaker or ‘Blockholer’ is designed to facilitate ore
flow in any underground mine by safely reducing oversize and obstructive
material from primary blasting activities.
The unit is equipped with a tele-remote control system which allows for
tramming, drilling and blasting activities to be carried out from a distance,
limiting operator exposure to the potential risk of rock fall.
Predecessors of the BH-3 model were sold to gold and base metals mines in
WA, NSW and Queensland where they continue to provide excellent service in
production operations. Globally over
seventy secondary breaking units have been produced by MacLean Engineering to
meet a variety of challenging underground mining applications.
Seen here with the new unit at the pre-delivery stage in Broken Hill
are Geoff Henry, Managing Director G.R.A. Engineering and Stan Wilson of
MacLean Engineering, leader of the commissioning team.
